The Passing Diaries
The magical moments which occur between and around epic life events, and more specifically during the days, hours, and minutes leading up to and including death, are the moments I strive to commemorate, through sketches and writings, in The Passing Diaries.
Every life on this earth will experience the same, inescapable event. Cause and time of death may vary, but all will die. Yet, with rarely an exception, the news that we, or a loved one, is facing imminent death hits us with overwhelming shock. Unlike many other cultures, we are never ready and certainly not okay with dying, death, or bereavement.
I revisit my memories of the hours alone and with my family while holding the space for my mom to transition from this life to whatever is next. The moments within those hours: giggling over an unexpected sound, challenging each other in a feisty game of cards, discussing how it must have been for mom to be alone so much while dad was at war, each of these moments deserve to be noticed and remembered.
The Passing Diaries' goal is to encourage and participate in the transformation of our society's response to death, generating a collective shift from fear to love.
