5 things to do before you die
Take a shower in a waterfall? Get that book published? Fall hopelessly in love? Dying Matters has a Facebook app for that!
Our new '5 things to do before I die' interactive tool lets you create a 'life list' of things you most want to do during your life. You can then post it to your Facebook wall and share it with friends. You can also vote for your favourite lists created by other people.
There are five different categories:
- I'd like to meet
- I'd like to visit
- I'd like to learn
- I'd like to start
- I'd like to be remembered
So far, users have expressed a desire to meet everyone from their grandparents to the Coen brothers to Michael Parkinson. Dream destinations include South America, Australia, Mauritius and "a peaceful Afghanistan". When it comes to learning something new, most people want to learn a language, although one poster has a desire to master the art of making walnut bread.
When asked what they'd like to start, responses included: "a family", "my own business", "a relationship", and "playing cricket for England". Responses to how they would like to be remembered are, unsurprisingly, diverse, ranging from "as the creator of eternal youth" to "frequently", and simply, "as a really good person".
Once you have uploaded your five things, you will receive a message flagging up the the five things you should do before they die. These include writing a will; making a funeral plan; and sharing end of life plans with loved ones.
So get going on your life list now. If you need further ecouragement, perhaps this quote from Mark Twain will help: “In twenty years from now you will regret the things you didn’t do far more than the things you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, dream, discover.”
