Prior to this Sarah was Director of Communications at the World Cancer Research Fund and before then she worked at the International HIV/AIDS Alliance for four years.
She has held senior communications, campaigns and PR roles in a range of other organisations, raising awareness and campaigning on issues such as disability, environment, health, international development and peacebuilding.
Sarah has also worked for PR agency Morgan Allen Moore, in the political affairs department at the Turkish Embassy in London and lectured at Imperial College London on science and communications.
Commenting on the new appointment, Tracey Bleakley, Chief Executive of Hospice UK, said:
“I am delighted that Sarah is joining Hospice UK as our Director of Campaigns and Communications.
“These are exciting and also challenging times for the hospice and palliative care movement as demand continues to grow rapidly and too many people still miss out on the vital support they need. Extending the reach of our campaigns through a wider variety of communications channels and reaching new audiences will be crucial to achieving our mission to ensure that everyone who needs hospice and palliative care gets this.
“With her wealth of expertise and experience in leading innovative campaigns, Sarah will be a huge asset to our organisation, helping us to ensure that hospice and palliative is higher up the national agenda and more prominent in the public consciousness. We are very much looking forward to having her on board.”
Sarah West said:
“I have direct personal experience of seeing the incredible and inspiring work of hospice care and I’m honoured to join such an important movement. As we see a growing ageing population the need for critical end of life provision is a serious and pressing issue. I look forward to working at Hospice UK and contributing to the vital work to raise awareness and campaign for change so people can access the care they need and want.”
Sarah will join Hospice UK on 28 June.
