Dying Matters welcomes Rio Ferdinand programme on grief

28 March 2017
Dying Matters has welcomed BBC One's documentary Rio Ferdinand: Being Mum and Dad in helping explore grief, loss, and how we can all help each other cope with bereavement.

Simon Chapman, Director of Policy and External Affairs for Dying Matters, said “Thank you to Rio Ferdinand for talking so openly about how hard he and his children found it to talk about their grief and emotions after Rebecca had died, and the difference it made once they were able to do so. It’s so important to the grieving process that people are able to talk about their feelings, and we can all help each other do that. If we know anyone who has been bereaved, we shouldn’t hold back for fear of saying the wrong thing. Letting them know we are willing to listen, and to talk about and remember the person who has died can be of great comfort.”

The programme airs on BBC One on Tuesday 28 March

During Dying Matters week 2017, which runs from 8 – 14 May, we will be emphasizing the importance of providing practical support for each other through dying death and bereavement. This includes helping people to talk and grieve, and making sure children are supported as well.
