Dying Matters Coalition Celebrates World Hospice and Palliative Care Day

8 October 2010
The Dying Matters Coalition welcomes World Hospice and Palliative Care Day (WHPCD), taking place today, 9th October, WHPCD is a unified day of action to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care around the world.

The theme of this year’s WHPCD is “Sharing the Care". Activities will seek to highlight the role of individuals such as community members, family members and health professionals, as well as different organisations.

Hilary Fisher, Director of the Dying Matters Coalition, said:

“The theme of this year’s WHPCD, “Sharing the Care” encourages us all to challenge the taboo of talking about dying, death and bereavement and empower people to discuss and plan what they want at the end of their lives. From hospice workers, health professionals and carers, to community groups, NGOs, and Government, we must all work together to encourage and stimulate greater openness to improve end of life care”.
