Welsh Health Minister Vaughan Gething’s ambition to designate Wales as a Compassionate Country has been warmly welcomed by Byw Nawr, the end of life care coalition in Wales.

Professor Hywel Francis, chair of Byw Nawr, said:

“We will enthusiastically work with Welsh Government to achieve Vaughan Gething’s ambition for a Compassionate Country.

Byw Nawr welcomes extra Welsh Government funding for end of life care

Dr Hywel Francis, Chair of Byw Nawr, has welcomed the Welsh Governent's announcement of an additonal £1 million in funding for end of life care in Wales. Dr Francis said "This is excellent news. Byw Nawr has always appreciated the Welsh Government’s commitment to improving end of life care, and this additional spending will make a big difference to people across Wales.

Making death speakable

When Dr Mark Taubert, right, wrote an open letter of thanks to David Bowie following the singer's death, he had no idea of the international attention it would receive. The letter was shared countless times, featured in innumerable media reports and even prompted Bowie's son Duncan Jones to break his Twitter silence to share it.

Byw Nawr week in Pembrokeshire

Pembrokeshire’s plans for Byw Nawr / Live Now  Week got off to great start on 5th  February when  Paul Sartori Hospice at Home hosted an open meeting to share ideas.   A wide range of organisations were represented with contributions from: community groups, Hywel Dda University Health Board, care homes, patient groups, domiciliary care, solicitors and funeral directors.   
The lively and interesting meeting generated many ideas on which to build plans for the 2016 Byw Nawr / Live Now week in May.
