A Party For Kath is 'Highly Commended'

1 October 2010
A Party for Kath, a five-minute film produced by Dying Matters to demonstrate the benefits of greater openness around death and dying, is highly commended in the Best Video category at the IVCA Clarion Awards.

The International Visual Communications Association (IVCA) Clarion Awards recognises best practice in communicating the importance of CSR, diversity, community development, ethical, health and welfare issues in the public, charity, social enterprise and corporate sectors.

The IVCA Clarions make a unique contribution to both business and society, by identifying the role of the communicator in encouraging an ethical culture, and fostering higher levels of engagement with key social or environmental issues.

Mayur Lakhani, GP and Dying Matters chairman, said: “I am absolutely delighted to announce that A Party for Kath was awarded highly commended at the International Visual Communications Association Clarion Awards. The film was recognised for its best practice in communicating and encouraging people to talk about dying, death and bereavement.

"The judges agreed that the story of Kath’s party demonstrated the benefits of people talking about their dying wishes with those around them in hope of having a good death. The judges noted how important this is in a society which continues to see death as a taboo, where almost 60 percent of us still die in hospital, despite 70 percent clearly preferring to die at home.

"We hope that the film, which is available to watch on this website, is used by our members to encourage people to have positive conversations and plan for one’s death."
