Celebrating Day of the Dead

The conference, inspired by the Mexican festival Día de los Muertos, will this year showcase community approaches to promoting openness about end of life.
We'll be sharing success stories from this year's Dying Matters Awareness Week, including talks on care homes, training volunteers, and dying in a multicultural world. The conference will also cover exciting new work around bereavement, including the launch of new resource "My Funeral Wishes", plus a screening of "Beyond Goodbye", a film about the healing power of a good funeral. Attendees will also have a chance to share their own community approaches with other coalition members.
Exhibitions include a display of work inspired by the Day of the Dead from students of Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham College, and an altar where attendees can place photos and stories of their dead loved ones. The evening will finish with a celebration of Día de los Muertos, with Mexican food, drinks and music.
Speakers include Dawn Chaplin, co-chair of the Bereavement Services association and co-founder of the National Working Alliance for Bereavement, and Alan Slater MBE, Chief Executive of the National Association of Funeral Directors. The conference will be chaired by Tony Bonser, chair of NCPC's People in Partnership group.
