Coles Miller To Support Dying Matters Awareness Week (May 8-14 2017)
Law firm Coles Miller will be supporting Dying Matters Awareness Week (May 8-14 2017) by offering free 30-minute consultations on wills and powers of attorney.
Wills and probate Partner Anthony Weber and Associate Jenny Oxley will be holding consultations at Coles Miller’s office in Station Approach, Broadstone.
Coles Miller legal assistant Lyndzey Smissen will offer consultations at the Durley Chine Road, Bournemouth office.
Dying Matters is a coalition of 32,000 members across England and Wales. Its aim is to help people talk more openly about death and bereavement so they can plan for it.
Members include community groups, healthcare organisations, faith groups and private individuals.
Coles Miller’s Anthony Weber said: “Death comes to us all eventually so it makes sense to talk about it openly and to plan for it properly.
“It’s vital to make a will if you have not yet done so – or to review your existing will to ensure its provisions still accurately reflect your financial and family circumstances,” he added.
“Powers of attorney are also becoming increasingly important as people live longer and become more likely to suffer from dementia before they die,” added Mr Weber, an accredited member of Solicitors for the Elderly.
“Setting up lasting powers of attorney enables people to nominate in advance trusted individuals to take decisions on their behalf once they have lost the mental capacity to do so for themselves.
“There are two types of lasting power of attorney – one covering financial matters, the other for health and care,” he added.
